Workshop Dates
The Aus WAS*IS workshop will be held January 29-February 2, 2007, in Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia. There also will be a welcoming reception to begin the workshop the evening of January 28.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Approximately 25 people who want to learn about and embrace the culture change embodied by the integration of weather and climate science with socioeconomic concerns will be selected to participate in Aus WAS*IS. We will select a diverse and interactive group that represents a range of experiences, educational environments, career aspirations, and specialties.
Graduate students, early career scientists, agency personnel, practitioners, professors, and others are encouraged to apply. Please note that, because of funding limitations, only people living within Australia will be accepted for the Aus WAS*IS workshop. Applicants must have completed a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in:
- atmospheric or ocean science
- anthropology
- political science
- economics
- emergency management
- engineering
- environmental science
- geography
- hydrology
- public administration
- public health
- other related field
Costs
Transportation, lodging, and food costs will be covered for those selected to participate in the Aus WAS*IS workshop. This includes domestic travel to and from the workshop, the operational costs of the workshop, and room, board, and workshop materials.
However, because of funding constraints, if you CAN support your own costs for travel to and from the workshop, we would greatly appreciate it! Note that even if you do fund your own travel to and from the workshop, your room, board, and workshop materials will still be covered by Aus WAS*IS. If you can support your travel costs, please indicate as such by checking the appropriate box when you fill out the on-line application.
