How to Apply
The Summer 2007 WAS*IS
July 2007

Announcing the Summer '07 WAS*IS Workshop

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Societal Impacts Program (SIP) is happy to announce that it will be holding a 2007 Summer WAS*IS workshop, contingent upon funding. Logistical and application information about the 2007 Summer WAS*IS workshop are below. Please visit our main WAS*IS page to read more about WAS*IS and determine if it's right for you!

Workshop Dates

The 2007 Summer WAS*IS workshop will be held July 12-20, 2007, in Boulder, Colorado. The workshop will begin with an evening reception on Thursday, July 12, and it will adjourn at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Approximately 25 people will be selected to participate in the 2007 Summer WAS*IS. We will select a diverse and interactive group that represents a range of experiences, educational environments, career aspirations, and specialties.

Graduate students, scientists, agency personnel, practitioners, professors, and others are encouraged to apply. Please note that, because of funding limitations, only people living within the United States will be accepted for this WAS*IS workshop. Applicants must have completed a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree, or commensurate experience, in anthropology, communication, economics, emergency management, engineering, environmental science, geography, hydrology, meteorology, psychology, public administration, public health, or another related field.

Costs

Transportation, lodging, and food costs will be covered for those selected to participate in the WAS*IS workshops EXCEPT for federal employees **. This includes travel to and from the workshop in Boulder, Colorado, the operational costs of the workshop, and room, board, and workshop materials.

**Unfortunately, because the funding for our workshop comes from federal sources, we are not legally allowed to reimburse federal participants for transportation, lodging, and food costs. Therefore, all federal employees who apply and are accepted into the workshop will have to cover their own costs.
